William Ury, born in 1953, is an American anthropologist and mediator who specialises in negotiation. A Yale graduate with a doctorate in anthropology from Harvard, he cofounded Harvard's Program on Negotiation. With Roger Fisher he wrote Getting to Yes (1981), one of the most widely read books on negotiation, and he is the author of Getting Past No, The Power of a Positive No, Getting to Yes with Yourself and Possible (2024). He has mediated in conflicts from the Cold War to Colombia, and created the Abraham Path, a walking route across the Middle East.
