The House of Burgesses was the elected lower house of the colonial legislature of Virginia. First convened at Jamestown in 1619, it was the earliest representative assembly in English North America, and it sat until 1776, when it gave way to the Virginia House of Delegates. Its surviving journals were edited by John Pendleton Kennedy and H. R. McIlwaine and published in Richmond in thirteen volumes between 1905 and 1915; those volumes are what this catalogue holds, in modern facsimile reprints.
