Sylvain Tesson is a French writer and traveller, born in Paris in 1972. Trained in geopolitics, he cycled around the world in 1993-94, took part in archaeological expeditions in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and retraced on foot the escape route of Gulag prisoners from Yakutsk to Calcutta. His travel writing and short stories include “Une vie à coucher dehors” (2009), which won the Prix Goncourt de la nouvelle, “Dans les forêts de Sibérie” (2011), written during six months alone in a cabin on Lake Baikal, “Berezina” (2015), “Sur les chemins noirs” (2016), written after a fall that badly injured him in 2014, “La Panthère des neiges” (2019), which won the Prix Renaudot, and “Avec les fées” (2024).
