Sophie Kinsella

Sophie Kinsella is the pen name of the British novelist Madeleine Townley (formerly Wickham), born on 12 December 1969 in Roehampton, London, and died in December 2025. She published seven novels under her married name before adopting the Kinsella pseudonym for “The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic” in 2000, launching the Shopaholic series around Becky Bloomwood, a financial journalist unable to manage her own spending; two of its titles were adapted as the film “Confessions of a Shopaholic” (2009). She also wrote the standalone novels “Can You Keep a Secret?” (2003), “Wedding Night” (2013) and “What Does It Feel Like?” (2024), an autobiographical account of her cancer. Her books have been translated into more than forty languages.
