Nigel Slack is Emeritus Professor of Operations Management and Strategy at Warwick Business School, where he formerly headed the Operations Management Group, and an Honorary Professor at the University of Bath. Trained as an engineer, he worked as a production engineer, production manager and operations director in engineering and consumer-durables manufacturing before moving into academia. He is the lead author of the textbook Operations Management, now in its tenth edition with Alistair Brandon-Jones and Nicola Burgess, and edited the operations volume of The Blackwell Encyclopedia of Management with Michael Lewis.
