Sebastian Faulks

Sebastian Faulks (born 20 April 1953 in Donnington, Berkshire) is a British novelist. He worked as a journalist for the Daily Telegraph and the Sunday Telegraph and became the first literary editor of The Independent before writing full time. His French trilogy — The Girl at the Lion d'Or (1989), Birdsong (1993) and Charlotte Gray (1998) — made his name, while Human Traces (2005), Snow Country (2021) and The Seventh Son (2023) form a later Austrian sequence. He also wrote the James Bond continuation novel Devil May Care (2008) and the Wodehouse homage Jeeves and the Wedding Bells (2013), and published a memoir, Fires Which Burned Brightly, in 2025. He was appointed CBE for services to literature in 2002.
