Leon Renier (1809-1885) was a French epigrapher and librarian who specialised in Latin inscriptions. Sub-librarian at the Sorbonne from 1847, he went on to run the university library and held the chair of Roman epigraphy and antiquities at the Collège de France from 1861 until his death. Elected to the Académie des inscriptions et belles-lettres in 1856, he led the Algerian expeditions of 1850-1852 that recorded the Roman inscriptions of North Africa. In 1845 he founded the Revue de philologie, de littérature et d'histoire anciennes.
