Raymond A. Moody

Raymond A. Moody Jr., born in Porterdale, Georgia, in 1944, is an American philosopher, psychiatrist and writer. He took a doctorate in philosophy at the University of Virginia in 1969, then a medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia in 1976, and practised as a forensic psychiatrist before holding the chair of consciousness studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, from 1998. His first book, Life After Life (1975), collected accounts of patients resuscitated after cardiac arrest and gave currency to the term “near-death experience”. He has since published Reflections on Life After Life (1977), The Light Beyond (1988), Coming Back (1991), Life Before Life (1991), Reunions (1993), The Last Laugh (1999), Life After Loss (2001), Glimpses of Eternity (2010) and Paranormal (2012), several of them written with Paul Perry.
