American author and journalist, born in New York in 1955, whose work centres on the relationships between people, plants, food and consciousness. Pollan is the Lewis K. Chan Arts Lecturer and Professor of the Practice of Non-Fiction at Harvard, and a longtime contributor to the New York Times Magazine. His books include The Botany of Desire (2001), the New York Times bestseller The Omnivore's Dilemma (2006), In Defense of Food (2008), Food Rules (2009), Cooked (2013), How to Change Your Mind (2018) and This Is Your Mind on Plants (2021). The Omnivore's Dilemma and How to Change Your Mind have both been adapted for Netflix documentary series.
