Mike Mignola is an American comics writer and artist, born in 1960 in Berkeley, California. After a decade drawing for Marvel and DC, he created Hellboy at Dark Horse in 1993 and built around it the interconnected universe known as the Mignolaverse: B.P.R.D., Lobster Johnson, Abe Sapien, Baltimore. His flat, high-contrast style and his use of folklore and pulp horror have made the character a lasting franchise, adapted for film in 2004, 2008 and 2019. He also co-writes illustrated novels with Christopher Golden.
