Mark Owens

Mark Owens, born around 1944, is an American zoologist, conservationist and writer. He studied at the University of Georgia, where he met the biologist Delia Owens; the two married in 1972 and, two years later, settled in Deception Valley, in Botswana's Central Kalahari Game Reserve, to study brown hyenas and lions. Seven years of that work became Cry of the Kalahari (1984), the first of three books written with her. The Eye of the Elephant (1992) and Secrets of the Savanna (2006) recount their later years in Zambia's Luangwa Valley.
