Joe Simon, born Hymie Simon on 11 October 1913 in Rochester, New York, and died on 14 December 2011 in New York City, was an American comic book writer, artist, editor and publisher. He was the first editor of Timely Comics, the company that became Marvel, and with Jack Kirby he created Captain America, who appeared in Captain America Comics #1 in March 1941. The same partnership invented the romance comic in the late 1940s with Young Romance, and worked for DC and Harvey Comics. He created the DC character Prez in 1973. He entered the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 1999.
