Holly Black (born 10 November 1971 in West Long Branch, New Jersey) is an American writer of fantasy for children, teenagers and adults. Her first novel, Tithe (2002), opened the Modern Faerie Tales; with the illustrator Tony DiTerlizzi she then created The Spiderwick Chronicles, adapted for the screen in 2008. She went on to write the Curse Workers trilogy, Doll Bones, The Darkest Part of the Forest and the Folk of the Air trilogy, which opens with The Cruel Prince (2018). Book of Night (2022) is her first novel for adults. She has also written comics, including a run on Lucifer for DC. Her work has earned a Newbery Honor, a Nebula and a Mythopoeic Award.
