Dennis Lehane is an American crime novelist, born in Boston in 1965 to Irish immigrant parents, and the working-class neighbourhoods of that city are the ground of most of his books. He made his debut in 1994 with “A Drink Before the War”, the first of six novels featuring the private investigators Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro, a sequence that runs to “Moonlight Mile” (2010). His standalone novels include “Mystic River” (2001), “Shutter Island” (2003), “The Given Day” (2008) and “Small Mercies” (2023); several have been filmed, by Clint Eastwood, Ben Affleck and Martin Scorsese. He has also written for television, notably for “The Wire”.
