Benoît Peeters

Benoît Peeters, born in Paris in 1956, is a French writer, comics scriptwriter and essayist. With the artist François Schuiten he created Les Cités obscures in 1982, a series of some fifteen albums published by Casterman and known in English as The Obscure Cities. A scholar of Hergé, he wrote Hergé, fils de Tintin (2002) and several essays on comics, and he is the biographer of Jacques Derrida (2010), Paul Valéry (2014), Sándor Ferenczi (2020) and Alain Robbe-Grillet (2022). He co-founded the publishing house Les Impressions nouvelles in 1985 and held the chair of artistic creation at the Collège de France in 2022-2023.
