Michelle Allen-Emerson

Michelle Allen-Emerson is an American literary scholar and a Professor of English at the United States Naval Academy. She holds a B.A. from Sewanee: The University of the South and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Virginia. Her research covers Victorian sanitary reform, urban history, periodical studies and Dickens. She wrote Cleansing the City: Sanitary Geographies in Victorian London (Ohio University Press, 2008), co-edited a Penguin edition of R. D. Blackmore's Lorna Doone, and is the general editor of the six-volume collection Sanitary Reform in Victorian Britain (Pickering & Chatto, 2012-2013), two volumes of which she edited herself.
