Frequently asked questions
How do I follow an author?
Search for their name, open their page and tap “Follow”. From then on, every release of theirs shows up in your releases and you get the alert. Following works the same on the site and in the app: it’s one account, and an author followed on the web is followed on your phone too.
How do I follow a series?
On a series page — a saga, a graphic novel series, a manga — tap “Follow the series”. You’re alerted to every new volume, whoever wrote or drew it. Two exceptions: a series the catalogue hasn’t confirmed yet, and a series that has ended — subscribing to a finished series would only promise alerts that will never come.
When am I told about a release?
That’s the release alert, and it goes out twice for each book: seven days before, then on release day. It arrives as a notification on your phone and by email, and a weekly digest gathers the releases of the authors you follow. Each of those can be switched off separately in your settings, and every email carries a one-click unsubscribe link. It comes with the free plan, whatever the format.
How do I get told when a book comes out in paperback?
That’s the reissue alert, included in Premium. A novel comes out in hardcover first, then in paperback and ebook — often a year or two later, and that’s the date everybody misses. You pick the formats you care about, and you get the alert on the day that particular edition is published.
Why does a date read “during September” instead of a day?
Because the publisher hasn’t announced the day yet. Parutio shows exactly the precision it was given — a day, a month, or a year — and never invents more than that: a to-the-day date that turns out to be wrong is worth less than a month that’s right. As soon as the exact day is published, the page updates and the countdown appears.
How do I add a book by scanning its barcode?
The scanner lives in the iPhone app: open it and point it at the barcode on the back of the book. It needs an account, and the free plan includes 30 scans for the lifetime of the account; Premium makes them unlimited. If we don’t know the barcode, we go and look the book up with our sources: it usually shows up a few minutes later.
How do I cancel my Premium subscription?
It depends where you subscribed. On the site, cancelling takes three clicks: Settings → Subscription → Cancel my subscription. In the app, the subscription belongs to your Apple or Google account and is cancelled from that account’s subscription settings — that one is out of our hands. Either way, Premium stays active until the end of the period you’ve already paid for, and nothing is charged after that.
How do I delete my account?
From Settings → Delete my account. Deletion is immediate and final: the account, the followed authors, the library and the share links all go. Before you leave, you can take your data with you from Settings → My data. A subscription bought from Apple or Google has to be cancelled with them: deleting your Parutio account doesn’t stop it.
An author is missing, a date is wrong: what do I do?
Report it — that’s how the catalogue gets better. Every author and book page carries a report link, and you can also write to us. A human reads every report before anything is corrected, and a missing author can be added on request.
Is there a home screen widget?
Yes, on iPhone. The “Next release” widget shows the next release by the authors you follow and the days left, on the home screen and on the lock screen, without opening the app. You add it like any other iOS widget: press and hold the home screen, tap “+”, then Parutio.
Your question isn’t here?
Write to us: we read everything. A missing author, a wrong date, an account problem or an idea — it’s the same address, and a person answers.
