Tess Gerritsen

Tess Gerritsen, born 12 June 1953 in San Diego, California, is an American novelist and a retired physician. She took her medical degree at the University of California, San Francisco, in 1979 and practised as a general physician in Honolulu, where she began writing romantic suspense; her first novel, "Call After Midnight", appeared in 1987. She moved to the medical thriller with "Harvest" (1996), then introduced the Boston homicide detective Jane Rizzoli and the medical examiner Maura Isles in "The Surgeon" (2001), opening a series of more than a dozen novels that TNT adapted for television as "Rizzoli & Isles" (2010-2016). Her other books include the historical thriller "The Bone Garden" (2007). She has received the RITA Award and the Nero Award.
