Luc Schuiten, born in Brussels in 1944, is a Belgian architect and comics writer. He graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels in 1967 and has since devoted his work to an architecture drawn from living things, which he calls archiborescence, and to his Vegetal City project. With his brother, the artist François Schuiten, he wrote the science-fiction cycle Les Terres creuses for Les Humanoïdes Associés: Carapaces in 1980, Zara in 1985 and Nogegon in 1990, published in English by Humanoids as The Hollow Grounds. He published Archiborescence in 2006 and chairs the Vegetal City association.
