Kentaro Miura

Kentaro Miura was a Japanese manga artist, born on 11 July 1966 in Chiba and died on 6 May 2021, aged 54, of an aortic dissection. He studied art at Nihon University and won the Shōnen Magazine Newcomer Manga Award in 1985. In 1988 he published a prototype of “Berserk”, a dark fantasy set in a world drawn from medieval Europe; serialisation began the following year and moved to the magazine Young Animal in 1992, where it ran until his death, past forty volumes. He also drew “King of Wolves” and “Japan” on scripts by Buronson, and wrote and drew “Giganto Maxia” (2013-2014) and “Duranki” (2019-2020). “Berserk” received the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize Award for Excellence in 2002; it has since been continued by his friend Kouji Mori and Studio Gaga, from his notes.
