Jesmyn Ward is an American novelist and essayist from DeLisle, Mississippi. She holds an MFA from the University of Michigan and is a MacArthur Fellow. Her novels include Where the Line Bleeds, Salvage the Bones (2011 National Book Award), Sing, Unburied, Sing (2017 National Book Award) and Let Us Descend (2023) — she is the first woman and the first Black American to win the National Book Award for fiction twice. Her essays are collected in Men We Reaped and The Fire This Time (as editor).
