Jean-Luc Outers is a Belgian novelist writing in French, born on 5 March 1949 in Brussels. Trained as a lawyer at the University of Louvain, he directed the literature promotion service of the Federation Wallonia-Brussels from 1990 to 2012. His first novel, L'ordre du jour (Gallimard, 1987), was adapted for the screen in 1993. Corps de metier (1992) won the Prix Victor-Rossel and Le Voyage de Luca (2008) its junior counterpart. La place du mort (1995), La compagnie des eaux (2001) and Le bureau de l'heure (2004) appeared with Actes Sud, Le dernier jour (2017) and Hotel de guerre (2022) with Gallimard, and his two most recent books with Les Impressions nouvelles.
