Jacqueline Wilson is a British writer, born in Bath in 1945, known above all for her children's and young-adult fiction. She began writing professionally in 1969, first for magazines and then in crime fiction, and found her readership in 1991 with “The Story of Tracy Beaker”, the diary of a girl in a children's home. She has published more than a hundred books, among them “Double Act” (1995), “The Illustrated Mum” (1999) and “Hetty Feather” (2009), and her novels deal plainly with divorce, foster care, illness and poverty as children live them. She was Children's Laureate from 2005 to 2007, was appointed OBE in 2002 and made a Dame in 2008.
