Graydon Carter is a Canadian-American journalist and magazine editor, born in Toronto on 14 July 1949. After writing for Time and Life, he co-founded the satirical monthly Spy in 1986, then edited the New York Observer before taking over Vanity Fair, which he ran from 1992 to 2017. In 2019 he co-launched Air Mail, a weekly digital title. His books include the essay collection What We've Lost (2004) and the memoir When the Going Was Good (2025); he also edited Vanity Fair's Hollywood (2000) and Spy: The Funny Years (2006), and writes introductions for photography books. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada.
