Édouard Louis

Édouard Louis is a French writer, born Eddy Bellegueule in 1992 in the Somme, in northern France, and educated at the École normale supérieure and the EHESS. His first book, "The End of Eddy" (2017), drew on the working-class village childhood he left behind; it was followed by "History of Violence" (2018), "Who Killed My Father" (2019) and "Change" (2024). Published in French by Seuil and translated into some twenty languages, he writes autobiographical narratives that treat class, poverty and violence as political facts. His books are widely adapted for the stage, notably by Thomas Ostermeier and Ivo van Hove.
