
Bessel van der Kolk (born 1943 in The Hague) is a Dutch-American psychiatrist and researcher based in Boston, known for his work on post-traumatic stress. He is a professor of psychiatry at Boston University School of Medicine and president of the Trauma Research Foundation. A past president of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies and former co-director of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network, he co-edited Traumatic Stress (1996) and wrote The Body Keeps the Score (2014), which has been translated into more than forty languages.
