Barack Hussein Obama II, born 4 August 1961 in Honolulu, was the 44th President of the United States, in office from 2009 to 2017. A community organiser in Chicago and a lecturer in constitutional law at the University of Chicago before entering politics, he served in the Illinois State Senate and then as United States Senator for Illinois. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009. As a writer he is the author of the memoir Dreams from My Father (1995), the political essay The Audacity of Hope (2006), the children's book Of Thee I Sing (2010) and the presidential memoir A Promised Land (2020).
