Alexander Cameron

Alexander Cameron (1827-1888) was a Scottish Celtic scholar and a minister of the Free Church of Scotland at Brodick, on the Isle of Arran. He taught Gaelic in Edinburgh through the 1870s, to classes drawn mainly from divinity students, and amassed a large body of philological material that he did not live to shape into the constructive work on the Gaelic language he had planned. The University of Edinburgh conferred an LL.D. on him six months before his death, and his collection passed to its library in 1889. His papers were edited posthumously by Alexander Macbain and John Kennedy as Reliquiae Celticae (Inverness, 1892-1894).
