Stephen King

Stephen King (born 21 September 1947 in Portland, Maine) is an American writer of horror, suspense and fantasy. He graduated from the University of Maine in 1970 and was teaching English at Hampden Academy when his first novel, Carrie, appeared in 1974. Salem's Lot, The Shining, The Stand, It, Misery and 11/22/63 followed, together with the Dark Tower cycle that links much of his work; several novels appeared under the name Richard Bachman. His fiction has been widely adapted for film and television. He received the National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters in 2003 and the National Medal of Arts in 2014, and lives in Maine.
