Mike Mignola is an American comics artist and writer, born on 16 September 1960 in Berkeley, California. He graduated from the California College of the Arts in 1982 and worked for Marvel and then DC, drawing “Cosmic Odyssey” with Jim Starlin (1988) and “Gotham by Gaslight” (1989). In 1994 he created Hellboy at Dark Horse with “Seed of Destruction”, a demon raised by humans who works for the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense. The same universe produced the series “B.P.R.D.”, “Abe Sapien”, “Lobster Johnson” and “Witchfinder”. He has also worked in film — Coppola's “Bram Stoker's Dracula”, Disney's “Atlantis: The Lost Empire”, “Blade II” — and Hellboy was adapted for the screen by Guillermo del Toro in 2004 and 2008. He has received several Eisner Awards.
