Hajime Isayama

Hajime Isayama is a Japanese manga artist, born on 29 August 1986 in Ōyama, Ōita Prefecture. He trained at a vocational school in Fukuoka and began serialising “Attack on Titan” (“Shingeki no Kyojin”) in Kōdansha’s Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in September 2009: thirty-four volumes, completed in April 2021, following a humanity walled in against giants. The series was adapted as an anime from 2013, and also for film and video games. It won him the Kōdansha Manga Award in the shōnen category in 2011, the Micheluzzi Prize in 2014 and a special Fauve at the fiftieth Angoulême festival in 2023. He also wrote the short stories “Heart Break One” and “Orz” (2008), and has been a tourism ambassador for the city of Hita since 2014.
