
Brit Bennett (born 1990 in Oceanside, California) is an American novelist and essayist. A graduate of Stanford and the University of Michigan's MFA program, she was named a National Book Foundation 5 Under 35 honoree. Her debut novel The Mothers (2016) was a New York Times bestseller; her second novel The Vanishing Half (2020) was shortlisted for the Women's Prize for Fiction and a National Book Award nominee. Her essays have appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine and The Paris Review.
