Philippa Gregory

Philippa Gregory is a British historical novelist, born on 9 January 1954 in Nairobi, Kenya. She read history at the University of Sussex and took a doctorate in eighteenth-century literature at the University of Edinburgh in 1985. Her first novel, “Wideacre”, appeared in 1987 and opened a trilogy. She is best known for her novels of the Plantagenet and Tudor courts, begun with “The Other Boleyn Girl” (2001) and continued through “The White Queen” (2009) and “The Red Queen” (2010); she also wrote the Order of Darkness books (2012-2018) and the Fairmile series (2019-2022). Her work has been adapted as the film “The Other Boleyn Girl” (2008) and the television series “The White Queen” (2013), “The White Princess” (2017) and “The Spanish Princess” (2019-2020). She was appointed CBE in 2021, and founded Gardens for The Gambia, a well-digging charity, in 1993.
