Percival Everett (born 1956 in Fort Gordon, Georgia) is an American novelist and Distinguished Professor of English at the University of Southern California. Known for his formally inventive and satirical fiction, he wrote Erasure (2001), later filmed as American Fiction, and I Am Not Sidney Poitier (2009). The Trees (2021) and James (2024) were both shortlisted for the Booker Prize; James, a retelling of Huckleberry Finn from Jim's point of view, won the 2024 National Book Award and the 2025 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.
