Lee Child is the pen name of James Dover Grant, born on 29 October 1954 in Coventry, England. He spent eighteen years at Granada Television in Manchester, working on productions such as Brideshead Revisited and Cracker, until he was made redundant in 1995. His first novel, Killing Floor (1997), won the Anthony and Barry awards for best first novel and introduced Jack Reacher, a former US military policeman turned drifter. The series now runs to more than thirty volumes; since 2020 the novels have been co-signed with his younger brother, who writes as Andrew Child and has progressively taken the series over. Reacher reached the screen in two films starring Tom Cruise (2012 and 2016) and, from 2022, in a television series.
