Hergé

Hergé was the pen name of Georges Remi, a Belgian comics writer and artist, born on 22 May 1907 in Etterbeek, Brussels, and died on 3 March 1983 in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert. The name comes from his reversed initials, R.G., as they are read aloud in French. He created Tintin on 10 January 1929 in “Le Petit Vingtième”, the children's supplement of the Brussels daily “Le Vingtième Siècle”, with “Tintin in the Land of the Soviets”; the series ran to twenty-three completed albums, the twenty-fourth, “Tintin and the Alph-Art”, being left unfinished at his death. He also drew “Quick & Flupke” (1930) and “The Adventures of Jo, Zette and Jocko” (1936). He co-founded the magazine Tintin in 1946 with Raymond Leblanc and opened Studios Hergé in 1950. His drawing gave its name to the ligne claire school.
