Gosho Aoyama is a Japanese manga author, born on 21 June 1963 in Hokuei, Tottori Prefecture. He made his name with “Yaiba” (1988-1993), which won the Shogakukan Manga Award in 1992, and “Magic Kaito”, featuring the phantom thief Kaito Kid. In 1994 he began “Case Closed” (“Meitantei Konan”, “Detective Conan”) in Weekly Shōnen Sunday — the story of high-school detective Shinichi Kudo, shrunk into a child by a mysterious drug and living as Conan Edogawa. The series is still running and is one of the best-selling manga of all time, with more than 270 million copies in circulation.
