Eiichiro Oda is a Japanese manga artist, born on 1 January 1975 in Kumamoto. He worked as an assistant to Shinobu Kaitani, Masaya Tokuhiro and Nobuhiro Watsuki from 1994, and in 1996 published two short stories titled “Romance Dawn” that prefigured his later work. “One Piece”, following the pirate Monkey D. Luffy and his crew, has been serialised in Weekly Shōnen Jump since 1997; the series runs to more than a hundred volumes and over 500 million copies in circulation worldwide. It has produced the spin-off series “One Piece Party” and “One Piece Episode A”, the latter drawn by Boichi, as well as anime comics adapted from the films. Oda is one of the very few manga artists who is almost never photographed.
