Dhonielle Clayton is an American writer of fantasy and contemporary fiction for young readers, born in Washington, D.C., in 1983. A former middle-school librarian, she holds an MFA in creative writing from The New School and is chief operating officer of the non-profit We Need Diverse Books. With Sona Charaipotra she wrote the Tiny Pretty Things novels and co-founded the book packager Cake Literary. Her own work includes The Belles trilogy, the middle-grade Conjureverse series, and the collaborative volumes Blackout (2021), Whiteout (2022) and Breakout (2026), written with Tiffany D. Jackson, Nic Stone, Angie Thomas, Ashley Woodfolk and Nicola Yoon.
