Colm Tóibín

Colm Tóibín (born 30 May 1955 in Enniscorthy, County Wexford) is an Irish novelist, short story writer and essayist. He worked as a journalist in Dublin and Barcelona before publishing his first novel, The South, in 1990. The Blackwater Lightship (1999) and The Master (2004) were both shortlisted for the Booker Prize, and Brooklyn (2009) was filmed in 2015; its sequel, Long Island, appeared in 2024. His other novels include The Testament of Mary (2012), Nora Webster (2014), House of Names (2017) and The Magician (2021), a life of Thomas Mann. He also writes criticism on Henry James, Elizabeth Bishop and James Baldwin, and teaches at Columbia University.
