Claire Keegan is an Irish short-story writer and novelist, born in 1968 in County Wicklow. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Paris Review and Best American Short Stories. Her books — the collections Antarctica (1999, Rooney Prize) and Walk the Blue Fields (2007, Edge Hill Prize), the novellas Foster (2010) and Small Things Like These (2021, shortlisted for the Booker Prize, adapted for cinema by Tim Mielants), and the stories So Late in the Day (2023) — are prized for their spare, unshowy precision.
