China Miéville

China Miéville is a British writer, born in Norwich in 1972, whose novels sit in the “weird fiction” he helped bring back into currency. He studied social anthropology at Cambridge and took a doctorate in international law at the London School of Economics, and his Marxist politics run visibly through his fiction. After “King Rat” (1998) he built the world of Bas-Lag across “Perdido Street Station” (2000), “The Scar” (2002) and “Iron Council” (2004), then wrote the standalone novels “Un Lun Dun” (2007), “The City & the City” (2009), “Kraken” (2010), “Embassytown” (2011) and “Railsea” (2012). He has won the Arthur C. Clarke Award three times and a Hugo for “The City & the City”. He also writes history and political essays, among them “October” (2017).
