André Aciman

André Aciman is an Italian-American writer, born on 2 January 1951 in Alexandria, Egypt, into a Sephardic Jewish family of Turkish and Italian descent. His family left Egypt in 1965 for Rome and settled in New York in 1968. A Distinguished Professor at the CUNY Graduate Center, where he teaches literary theory and the work of Marcel Proust, he published the memoir Out of Egypt in 1995, followed by the novels Call Me by Your Name (2007), Eight White Nights (2010), Harvard Square (2013), Enigma Variations (2017) and Find Me (2019). His later books include the memoir My Roman Year (2024) and the novellas of Room on the Sea (2025).
